Shift The Way You Think About Change

This past year has been filled with major life milestones for me: moving in with a boyfriend, getting another puppy, quitting my corporate job, and moving from New York to Seattle. Some people may not be able to understand why or how, or think I’m nuts, but I have never been happier.

Change is good

I’ve always heard people say that and never really took it to heart until recently. Change is good because it forces you to make adjustments and adapt. Change forcefully gives you a few moments of rare clarity. Seize that moment. Give yourself the chance to get real with your intentions and what you desire out of this life.

Being unsure is good

I used to be the type of person to maintain the “status quo” in all aspects of my life (professional, personal, relationships, etc.) in hopes of finding true happiness. If everything flows nicely and looks great on paper, I’ll instantly be happy – right? Wrong! That mentality will only make you knee-deep in a job you despise and in a relationship with someone entirely unfit for you. Been there! Done that!

Take a step outside of your comfort bubble; make room for change to enter your life. Being unsure about change, yet embracing the situation for the potential that it holds, is beautiful. And scary. But also beautiful.

Being challenged is good

You’re capable of so much more than you’ve ever imagined. The last year of my life is an example of potential just waiting to be unleashed (and there’s so much more to come). Change challenges us – it draws out our insecurities, emphasizes our anxieties, and sometimes throws us a big slap in the face. This is just fantastic (you say through gritted teeth), but it truly is. The potential to grow during these phases of change is unbridled and bountiful, just approach it with the right attitude.

Being happy is great

Ultimately, being happy is at the core of our desires as human beings. The path to happiness is different for everyone, but they all have one thing in common: change.

Make the necessary changes in your life and make room for happiness to flow in. Sometimes, change is out of our control, and you must accept it. Run with it. Go wild. Don’t ever look back.

Every chance to make a change is a blessing.
